Redchurch Townhouse — London, UK
The Soho House group is on a mission. Just this year, it has launched five properties – in locations from Brooklyn to Amsterdam – all while plotting openings that will take us right into 2020 with Mumbai followed by Hong Kong.
The latest to join the portfolio is Redchurch Townhouse which, like Dean Street Townhouse and Kettner's Townhouse, comprises a public restaurant with bedrooms.
Just down the road from Shoreditch House, the hotel is set over a 1960s two-storey industrial building and an adjacent property that have been stitched together and repurposed by local firm 31/44 into a five-floor hub that also includes Allpress Espresso and J. Crew at street level.
The 37 sun-lit rooms, which have been outfitted by Soho House Design, take their cues from the style of the 1950s-70s with custom-made retro chandeliers, low-slung midcentury-style furnishings and graphic prints that are revealed through plump cushions and wool rugs and throws. The bathrooms have bespoke vanity units and hand-painted tiles, while the ‘Large' rooms feature deep-soaking stand-alone tubs with views of the city.
The public restaurant in question for this Townhouse, is the failsafe Soho House staple Cecconi's – the second in the city. Here, the interiors are in keeping with the brand's other outposts with a simple low-key colour palette, an art programme featuring local pieces from 40 artists, all under 40, and the signature black-and-white striped marble floor.
Meanwhile the menu is a more relaxed version of its Mayfair sister, with sharing pasta bowls, like the lobster spaghetti, and crisp wood-fired pizzas. And while the Cecconi's favourite veal Milanese is not an option here, the tasty saddleback wood roasted porchetta was certainly a satisfying substitute.
