Penelope Cruz is getting into character as Donatella Versace for the upcoming season of American Crime Story. The actress was spotted in costume for the first time yesterday while filming the miniseries in Miami. She donned jeans, a billowy silk top, a handbag and a striking platinum blonde wig.

Cruz was first announced to play the iconic fashion designer in March, following rumors that Lady Gaga would be taking on the role. She joins a star-studded cast: Edgar Ramirez plays Gianni Versace, Ricky Martin plays his longtime partner Antonio D'Amico, Glee's Darren Criss plays Gianni's killer, Andrew Cunanan, and New Girl's Max Greenfield also makes a cameo in an unknown role. Show creator Ryan Murphy recently teased the latter two actors on set.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace—based on the true crime book Vulgar Favors by Marlene Orth—follows the murder of the renowned designer on the steps of his Miami Beach home in 1997. (TMZ reports the cast and crew locked in a six-figure deal to rent and film at Versace's exact mansion. )

This marks the third installment of Murphy's American Crime Story, which launched in 2016 on FX with the highly acclaimed The People v. O.J. Simpson. The second season, titled Katrina, will revolve around the eponymous hurricane and is set to premiere next year. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story is also slated to run in 2018.
