Lily Allen claims that she was sexually assaulted by someone in the music industry. While she kept the name of her alleged perpetrator anonymous, the singer said she reported the abuse at the time, but no one listened.

“I’ve had things happen that I would feel uncomfortable talking about because they’re linked with lots of people I work with," she told the i News. "People who are in control of things that affect me. But like Rose McGowan, I reported it to people around me – women! – and no one did anything."

Allen asserted that her record label - Parlophone, whom she signed with when she was 19 - refuses to hold the abuser accountable because he makes the company too much money.

“My record label have a list of priority acts, pretty much all of which have a link to the person who did something to me," she said.. "I know what will happen. They’ll say, ‘Let’s try and get rid of Lily because this person is worth more to us because he makes us lots of money.’"

Allen is the latest high-profile name to come forward with a personal story of sexual misconduct, following the Weinstein scandal in October 2017. She pointed out that the music industry is a small place, meaning that it's difficult to escape sexual abusers.

“In film and TV, you can choose not to work with any of those people again," she said. "You can move country, move out of London to LA. You can’t do that in music. It’s the same bunch of people on both sides of the Atlantic and it’s inescapable because it’s 15-year-long contracts.”
